oral interpretation


The working time for oral interpreters is counted from the hour they are assigned for work (and the moment they are present for work) to the moment they are dismissed for the day. The fees for interpretation services are calculated on the basis of interpreting blocks commenced (2, 4, 8 hours). Every commenced hour is counted as a full hour. Breaks during the rendering of interpretation services shorter than 2 hours are included in the working time of the interpreter.

One interpreter only is permitted for conference interpreting of less than 3 hours. Those lasting over 3 hours require the presence of 2 interpreters with each of them being remunerated according to the standard basis.

Simultaneous interpretation services (booth interpreting) are always rendered by a pair of interpreters and charged on the basis of interpreting blocks of 4 and 8 hours. During the conference, interpreting booths should be located in a position allowing the interpreter to watch the room, lecturer and the presentations. The client is obliged to provide the interpreters with a detailed agenda of the conference and the basic lecture texts. The interpreter has the right to refuse services in the event of faulty equipment.

For conferences requiring the use of specialist terminology, the client is obliged to provide the interpreter with some basic materials allowing him a thorough preparation for the conference. Tthe prices will be subject to negotiation for assignments requiring particularily highly qualified interpreters (interpretation from numerous languages, on a very specialized subject etc.) or those presenting a high level of difficulty.

A standard working day for an interpreter comprises 8 hours. The 9th and 10th hour of an interpretation are charged with an additional fee of 50% of the basic fee and the 11th and 12th hour with an additional fee equaling 100% of the basic fee. Interpretation services rendered between 22.00 and 6.00 are charged with an additional 100% of the basic fee and an additional 50% of the basic fee for those rendered on Sundays and public holidays.

For interpretation assignments outside Warsaw, the client is responsible for the interpreter's travel and accommodation expenses as well as arranging their travel, accommodation and meals in the work place.

Interpretation assignments requiring direct interpretation from one foreign language (non-Polish) into another foreign language carry a surcharge of 50%.
